Exquisite Jacquard fabrics for interiors.
Soft Furnishing Fabrics
At David Walters we create a wide range of furnishing qualities for drapery, blinds and other window treatments. Combining yarns such as cotton, silk, wool and linen with our extensive design knowledge and manufacturing capabilities, offers an endless variety of designs and textures.
Silk:
Our affinity with silk is deeply rooted in the origins and heritage of the business and it remains one of our specialities today. Silk has been prized for its luxurious properties for thousands of years and it can be dyed to create an incredible quality of colour.
Silk is naturally self-extinguishing, which means it has excellent natural fire-retardant properties without the application of chemicals. Our fabrics are either pure silk or woven as blends with other natural fibres. We stock over 180 different silk shades.
Wool:
Wool is the most common animal fibre used in the textile industry. Our lambswool provides a soft luxurious handle ideal for window treatments. When combined with silk or viscose, it creates subtle textures between matt and shine. We are committed to sourcing sustainable yarns, which is why our core wool products use fibre which is Responsible Wool Standard. This means we have transparency of where the wool fibre originated, and it is the industry benchmark driving improvement in animal welfare protection, land health preservation and social welfare.
Other fibres:
We also stock other natural fibres such as linen, silk noil and mohair. These are generally used for lighter weight fabrics such as drapes, which help accentuate the characteristic slubbed effect of the yarn.
Recycled polyester, FSC viscose and other synthetic fibres are also available for those fabrics that require greater performance. With an extensive range of colours, all of our yarns are held in stock. This allows us to react quickly to new fabric developments, as well as being able to provide shorter production lead times.
Flax:
Viscose flax is our most versatile furnishing yarn due to its strength, slub character and subtle lustre. It is made from a blend of natural flax and certified FSC viscose from Canopy approved suppliers. Both linen and flax are derived from the same plant, with flax being spun from a shorter fibre length than linen. This yarn provides a robust, natural alternative to synthetics for higher performance and higher abrasion fabrics for interiors.
Chenille:
Our chenille yarn is made from 100% cotton. Chenille is unique in its structure, which twists two core threads around short cut fibres. These short fibres then create a pile effect when woven, similar to velvet. Due to the way the yarn is constructed, it provides a rich softness as well as high abrasion for performance fabrics. Our cotton chenille has a dry matt finish and can be woven with other fibres such as cotton and viscose to achieve over 50,000 martindale abrasion.
Cotton:
Our core upholstery qualities are all woven using Egyptian cotton warps. Cotton fabrics are both soft and durable, which makes it a versatile fabric suitable for a variety of textile products.
The colour range consists of over 50 weft colours which are all held in stock at our mill in Sudbury.
We also have GOTS certified cotton boucle yarn which provides great texture and character, and combines beautifully with our other fibres.
